A new study analysing the cost-effectiveness of the U-Care Renal Platform compared with the current standard of care in Italian intensive care units has been published in BMC Nephrology.
The analysis was conducted from the perspective of the Italian National Health Service using an economic model with a 20-year time horizon, applied to a modelled cohort of 2,000 annual ICU admissions.
The model considered both the acute phase, covering the first 90 days, and the potential long-term consequences of AKI. This allowed the study to assess the potential impact of early prediction and the timely application of KDIGO recommendations on health outcomes and costs incurred by the Italian National Health Service.
Overall, the U-Care Renal Platform showed a favorable profile compared with the standard of care in the model estimates. The study therefore broadens the evaluation of the platform by considering its potential economic value for Italian ICUs alongside clinical aspects.
